It’s hard to sum up the elegant beauty of Laurita Winery with mere words so I’ll use numbers instead – 40 acres of vineyards framed by 200 acres of woodlands with a 20,000 square foot tasting room overlooking it all. And the view? Beyond measure. It’s a true suck-in- your-breath moment. Inside the statuesque tasting room which was crafted from two 150-year-old barns, you will find plenty of polished oak, brick fireplaces, first-rate food and a classy but festive atmosphere.
Wine tastings at Laurita are $10 for 6 samples and despite us being sweet lovers we decided to take a risk and try the Grand Cru Chardonnay. While it had a strong, almost whiskey-like aroma, the finish was smooth with a buttery aftertaste. Then it was on to the semi-sweet wines. First up was Windswept White which resembled a sweet Riesling in both aroma and taste, making it my personal favorite. The Beachcomber Blush with its strawberry notes and slightly sweet taste will rock fans of White Zinfandel while the Tailgate Red is refreshingly tart. But my newfound favorite is the Barcelona White, an Albarino style wine notes of peach.
Laurita Winery has a lot more to offer than just outstanding vistas and award-winning wines. Their grove area features an outside stage with live music and food trucks often pay a visit as well so be sure to follow them on Facebook. Need a place to stay while you indulge in revelry? Look no further than the Inn at Laurita Winery, a restored farmhouse with a spa. A short distance away is the Rein Dancer Equestrian Center which offers lesson as well as therapeutic sessions. One thing is for sure - there is always something going on at Laurita Winery!
